About Us
We are a small vocal ensemble specializing in "a cappella" music (that is, music sung without instrumental accompaniment). We began as carolers in the Looking Glass Theater show, "A Christmas Carol," and decided to continue singing together after the production. In September, 2005, the JUUL Tones became one of the performing choirs of the First Unitarian Universalist Church of San Diego, as well as singing throughout the community at weddings, benefits, and other events.  All of our fees are donated to charity.

First Unitarian Universalist Church of San Diego
The JUUL Tones sing a variety of styles including hymns, pop, doo-wop, barbershop, gospel, ballads, folk, and contemporary music. The ensemble sings in Sunday morning services, as well as for special church events and community functions. Members have a wide range of musical backgrounds, but they must be able to sing in four- to eight-part harmony and demonstrate commitment to attending rehearsals, practicing individually, and improving their musicianship in the ensemble.
Because we value balance and vocal blend, this choir is limited in size (12 members); a waiting list of interested singers is maintained for auditions when a space is open. Please see the director, Andrea Newall (
andrea@juultones.org )if you are interested in being added to the waiting list.
